Thanks to Kate Asbury Larkin of the Auburn Alumni Association, we now have list of band alumni we can use to provide information. This is the first of several emails you will receive from me during the year about the Auburn Alumni Band. If you do not want to receive these, there are means to opt-out or unsubscribe, but I hope you will stay with us.

Those 170+ members who attended the 2014 reunion are still enjoying memories of Homecoming. What a great day – meeting old friends, lovely weather and listening to an incredible student band. Getting to march on the field again and play in the stands is a thrill that never goes away. Congratulations on a great job by co-drum majors Jeff Rowser and Nick Smith. What fun! I give my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rick Good and his staff and to Sarah Ferguson and the band students who did so much to make the event a super success.

I have officially taken the reins of the Alumni Band Association from a fine gentleman, Ben Morris, who has very ably led us these past two years. This is my “President’s Inaugural address” (so to speak).

According to our by-laws, we exist to promote the pride and spirit of the great Auburn Band and the band alumni through communication, annual reunions and financial support of the band. You have done a noble job of that in the past and we will continue to do so. My personal goals for the next two years are:

(1) Find as many band alumni as possible and invite and encourage them to participate.

(2) Bring us closer by providing as much information as possible to the Auburn Alumni Band Association through email, mail, social media and other avenues.

(3) Work with the student band as closely as possible.

(4) Be as receptive as possible to your ideas and desires to and help us achieve our maximum possible potential.

Although there are a few things we cannot control (e.g. the date of the Homecoming game, game times, etc.), I want to continue to improve our ability to get the word out and be responsive to the membership.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve. I pledge to do my best to represent you and to keep you informed and I ask you to assist by helping us encourage more and more alumni to attend, including those from recent years as well as old timers like me.

Your President for 2014-2016, Steve Scott
